About Us

It started with science & soup ...

.. an instant friendship sparked in organic chemistry and solidified in a cooking lab!

We met in graduate school as we were both pursuing a Masters in Nutrition & Integrative Health and working towards being Certified Nutrition Specialists (the gold standard credential for advanced nutrition professionals). As our friendship grew so did our passion to put the knowledge we were gaining through our education, training, and experience to use for new and future mamas! We realized there was a substantial lack of information available to women who were looking to conceive, pregnant, or postpartum on what they really needed to be doing to optimize their health and the health of their baby.

Thus, Mama-Sense was formed!

Our goal is to leverage our skilled expertise at digging into the scientific journal and newest emerging scientific data along with our understanding of alternative, ancient, traditional and integrative approaches to empower women with knowledge to make nutrition, health, and lifestyle choices that will serve them and their babies in pregnancy & beyond.

We have developed workshops jam packed with education, resources, and information from trending health concerns (e.g. GMOs, microbiome health, etc.) to basics (e.g. What do I really need to eat for pregnancy) to innovative solutions (e.g. how to boost placenta health & decrease environmental toxins). Mamas will leave our workshops with an "arsenal" of MAMA-SENSE support and a new confidence that they know how to nourish themselves and their babies to truly thrive.

Mary Phelps

Mary started on her wellness journey 10 years ago when she was diagnosed with chronic fatigue, hormone imbalance and PCOS, while competing as a Division 1 college athlete. After becoming frustrated with the limited options given to her by her doctors, she was determined to find a better answer. Starting with a lot of research on personal natural healing, she began a decade long journey to find the best ways to use diet and lifestyle changes, along with natural healing, to help those around her.
She has since completed her Master's of Science in Nutrition and Integrative Health from Maryland University of Integrative Health and has become a Board Certified Nutrition Specialist. She specializes in all things women's health and has taken a specific interest in the importance and power of nutrition in all stages of pregnancy (preconception to postpartum). She has worked with women to increase fertility, balance hormones, combat chronic illness, balance blood sugar, and promote overall health and well-being.
Through these experiences, Mary believes even more today in the healing power of nature and the simple yet effective tools we have at our fingertips.
Mary currently practices as a Nutritionist in D.C., where she lives with her husband and son.
When she is not geeking out on the latest nutrition research, you can find Mary listening to live music, travelling to visit friends or cleaning baby food off the floor.
She is excited to share this experience, information and all of the practical tips with you!

Arianne Bozarth

Arianne began her career in the field of cellular molecular biology working as a research assistant for a Doctor of Infectious Disease. Shortly thereafter she felt called to join the military where she served as a Marine Corps Officer for 4.5 years. After completing her service, she transitioned into analysis and strategy consulting for the government. However, her heart was calling her back to her roots in science, health, and healing.

After struggling with fertility issues for over a year, Arianne decided to put her analytical and science background to use and dig deep into the research to unlock the roadblocks to her conception. Along the way she discovered the power of food to promote healing and the innate wisdom and resilience of body. After designing a unique protocol Arianne was able to restore her fertility and conceived 2 months later. She now has two beautiful children, a 5 year old and 3 month old.

Arianne knew she was not alone in her journey and wants to share her knowledge with others so they too can achieve their goals and have the healthy family they desire.
Arianne currently practices nutrition therapy in northern Virginia.
When not buried in nutrition literature, you can find Arianne taking her family on culinary adventures in her kitchen (since travel is few years away at the moment), rocking it out at family-time dance parties, or enjoying the greenery and earth in her backyard garden.

She has found her family bliss ... and she wants to help you find yours!
